How to Make a Sex Painting: Spice Things Up With Sex Art
When you think about decorating your home, smashing your paint-covered naked body into a canvas for a sex painting may not be the first thing that comes to mind, but don’t write it off just yet…
A study published in Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, found that couples who tried new things had more fulfilling intimate experiences. And not only is creating your own sex painting a way to try something new, it’s also a great way to create some home decor that definitely falls under the category of “conversation piece.”
If you’ve never heard of sex art before, it’s basically the act of covering yourself in paint and then having sex on a large canvas. It’s actually more commonplace than you might think. You can even buy a Love Is Art kit directly from Amazon.
Things may not go as seamlessly as they did in our steamy ethical porn movie ‘Paint’, but as long as you’re prepared to laugh, slip and get a little messy, creating a sex painting can be a fun way to make memories and capture a sexy moment on canvas.
What you need to make a sex painting
Whether you’re getting creative with a partner or on your own, you’re going to need a few things to get this art party started. Here’s what you need for you painting date night…
Before:
- A drop cloth
- A large sheet of cotton canvas
- Body-safe paint
- Towels
- Painters tape (optional)
- Baby wipes or a cloth
After:
- Wood framing for canvas
- Staple gun
- Picture hanging kit
Find the spot where you want to get busy. The bed isn’t suggested, since your mattress may get a little colorful and you run the risk of warping the canvas. Ideally you want a flat surface that is still easy on the body, like a carpeted floor.
Lay down your drop cloth. You can tape it down if you like, but it’s likely to get dislodged once things get moving.
Lay your canvas down on top of the drop cloth, then lay down as many towels as it takes to create a path from the canvas to the bathroom. This will make for MUCH easier post-art clean up.
Optionally, you can add tape to your canvas to create a more geometric look to your art piece. Lay painters tape across the canvas, creating intersecting lines. Once the fun is done, you can remove the tape to add a little extra pop to your painting.
Getting busy
Start with a little foreplay before moving to the floor. Canvas isn’t the comfiest option for sex, so make sure you’re good and warmed up before bringing paint into the scene. Start by making out on the couch, jump into a little oral sex to get things going and make sure you’re good and ready before you take things to the floor. Once you’re ready, break out the colours!
For best results, add the paint to the canvas and not to your body. You can add a couple different colors or go for a monochrome look.
The paint should be non-toxic, but use baby wipes to keep from eating it off of your partner’s body, if necessary.
Remember it’s ok to laugh! Don’t worry too much about how the painting turns out, concentrate on each other instead.
Try not to get into your head. Lean into the fun, strangeness and sensuality of rolling around on the floor in paint. While sex art itself can be a crazy and fun experience, you can make the whole process a journey if your hearts desire.

Getting cleaned up
Once you’ve finished creating your masterpiece, head to the shower to scrub each other down. This can add another layer of sexiness and fun, while you try to remove the paint from one another. Continue your makeout session in the shower as you try to find and clean every little bit of paint off your partner’s body. Use your mouth for an extra thorough cleaning process. 😉
When your work of art is dry you can remove any tape and stretch it over a wood frame, stapling it at the back. Then hang, enjoy and make up lies when your family members ask about it. Done and done!
Creating a sex painting can be a fun, novelty experience – and that is what our video ‘Paint’ depicts. It spices up your sex life, and creates a sensory memory you won’t soon forget. So, why not get a little messy this weekend and get in touch with your inner artist…
