What is vulva diversity?
No two vulvas look the same. Vulva diversity is a term that acknowledges the fact that vulvas are all unique.
Here are some ways vulvas can be diverse:
Color: Whether your vulva is pink, brown, purple, red, black, or a mix, it’s normal. Vulvas come in lots of colors. Plus, your inner and outer labia might be different colors, your vagina might be its own color, and your clitoris might be its own color
Clitoris size and shape: Some clitorises are barely visible, and others protrude from the clitoral hood. Clitoral hoods also come in different sizes, shapes, and textures
Labia length, size, and shape: Some people’s inner labia extend past their outer labia, and people’s outer labia hide their inner labia. Labia can be all different sizes, shapes, and colors. All labia are perfect
Hair: Some people prefer to shave and some people prefer to let their hair grow. Some people have kinky hair; other people have straight hair. Hair can come in different colors, too!

Why does vulva diversity matter?
A lot of people are dissatisfied with their vulvas or believe that their vulvas are “abnormal.” So many of us haven’t seen vulvas like ours represented in anatomy textbooks, TV, or movies.
Instead, we grow up hearing jokes about people with “big bushes,” or learn that we should be ashamed of our vulvas for how they smell, taste, or look.
What if we were taught that our vulvas were normal? That vulvas are supposed to smell like vulvas (not roses), look like vulvas, and taste like vulvas? What if we saw a variety of vulvas represented?
People with vulvas deserve to feel confident in their bodies and confident in their worthiness of pleasure.
Why is vulva diversity important in porn?
For lots of people, porn is one of the only places to see vulvas, because vulvas aren’t shown in tv or movies too often.
Another study found that some women who watched porn felt more comfortable being naked than women who didn’t. And another study shows that porn might help women become more satisfied with their vulvas.
This matters on its own. And it matters because body satisfaction is associated with increased arousal, overall sexual satisfaction, and more orgasms.
When you love your vulva, you’re more sexually satisfied and you have more orgasms.
Why you might want to watch porn that shows diverse vulvas
Porn is supposed to make you feel good, not self conscious. Porn that portrays a diversity of vulvas can help you see your own vulva as sexy, handsome, or beautiful.
